Marvin the Mouse - Short Funny Story (well, based on my humor...)

Marvin snores in a cozy scrap bedding when a delectable smell comes flowing through the front door. His whiskers twitch as one blurry eye opens.

Peanut butter?

He fluffs his fur and flicks his long tail while peeking out the door into the human's kitchen.

Yes!

Little Suzie is getting herself a snack. Standing on a wooden stool, she sticks her entire hand inside a peanut butter jar. Marvin knows it's only a matter of time before that glorious moment happens.

A glob of peanut butter hits the wooden floor.

Glorious!

Marvin grins. He could skitter out to the gooey gold, get a mouthful and be back before Suzie even finishes licking her fingers. Sprinting towards his goal, something catches the corner of his eye. He skids to a stop in the middle of the room.

Whiskers freeze, paws go numb. Stomach tightens, eyes clench shut. He pulls his tail in close. Heart's pounding, trying to force blood back into his paws. His nose searches for the scent that is about to take his life. Fear ripples through his body as he waits for the pounce. His final breath!

......

Nothing.

Only the beating of his heart and a garbled giggle, from Suzie still licking her fingers, reaches his ears. He dares to look across the room at the fur ball that had caught his eye.

Could it be? A new pet?

He stares hard at the black fur. His eyes follow the fluffy tail over the hips up the spine through the pointed ears and down to the yellow eyes. He then realizes the eyes are not looking straight at him. Maybe he struck some luck? The cat has yet to catch his sight or scent! His mind begins racing, looking at every possible exit.

Dishwashing machine?  No, cat's claws could fit under it. He could go for the refrigerator but then Suzie is bound to see him. Can he make it back to his home? Marvin tries to settle his nerves. He hears a shuffle of Suzie's feet. She could turn around at any moment! He has to take action.

Another waft of peanuts runs across his whiskers making him drool. Oh, how he wants that peanut butter!

Then, a crazy thought crosses between his ears. Maybe he could still reach the prize AND get back to his cozy bed.  Marvin musters up some courage and makes a break for it. While opening his mouth to take a drive-by scoop, Suzie tips over the stool.

CRASH!!

The edge of the stool's leg spanks Marvin and sends him flying straight into the sticky glob. Head buried, his feet scratch in all directions trying to get traction. Fear clinches his heart, lungs strain to pull air through his clotted nose. He knows that final pounce is soon upon him!

Idiot!

He finally rolls out of the peanut butter leaving buttery footprints as he slogs towards his hole. One final leap lands him inside his haven. He lies heaving on his backside sputtering goo out his nose. How could he be so stupid and so lucky at the same time? He should have been dinner for that black fur ball! He pulls himself back over to the door and looks towards the mess he left behind.

Suzie's mother is now in the kitchen and not happy with the mess. She takes Suzie to the sink and cleans her hands. The stool is still on the floor next to the scrambled peanut butter. From his door, he can only see the cat's tail but it is still in the same spot.

Is the cat deaf or blind?

He continues to clean his face and paws as he watches Suzie run over and pick up the cat. The cat's legs stick out in weird angles. Suddenly, it hits him.

Stuffed cat!

There was nothing to fear the whole time!? He is so annoyed with himself that he fails to notice the mother pause before cleaning up the little buttery pawprints.

He chuckles while he scoots back to bed. He has had enough for one day!

Later that evening, a delectable smell suddenly arises within his home. He opens one blurry eye and sees a glorious sight! A huge piece of cheese on a wooden platter has been pushed inside his door.

How nice of someone to deliver cheese!
